Meet the Team
Our Foli Sim team is a dynamic and highly skilled group of industry experts, specialising in Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), commonly referred to as hair tattoo.
Operating out of our state of the art, Health Department Certified studios from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, our team continues to use their skills to help countless clients restore the confidence they previously lacked due to hair loss.

A family-owned team
Foli Sim is a family-owned and operated business, and we pride ourselves on the second-to-none experience with our highly qualified, friendly team of artists.

How are Foli Sim's SMP artists in Australia trained?
Foli Sim's SMP artists in Australia are trained in-house before anything else. In the Perth studio that training is given by Kate Dawes, an IAT-registered trichologist and the clinic's Leading Senior Practitioner. Shannon Over and Tara Scrivener both trained under her, and Kelly Dawes began with Kate's five-day SMP essentials workshop in 2017 before moving on to masterclasses in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Training does not stop at the studio door. Kelly's profile lists a masterclass at Brandwood Clinic in the UK, hairline and scar camouflage training at Scalp Micro USA, colour theory at Olympia Beauty and, in 2022, a guest speaking slot at The Scalp Show in Las Vegas. Courses like these are how a technique learnt in Fremantle stays in step with the wider field.
Artists who join with experience elsewhere are measured against the same bar as every qualified SMP practitioner already here. Natalie Marie came to Sydney from a head technician and trainer role with a global SMP company in London, and Dave Ticconi joined Melbourne after founding and running his own SMP clinic. Each artist's courses are listed on their profile page.

What does one standard across three studios mean for you?
Whether you see an SMP artist in Perth, Sydney or Melbourne, the visit runs the same way. It begins with a free consultation, in person or by video or phone, where your hair loss pattern, skin tone and the hairline you want are talked through before anything is agreed. Your hairline is then drawn on and approved by you before any pigment is placed, and the result is built up over several sessions rather than in one sitting.
- Three Health Department Certified studios, in Fremantle, Double Bay and North Melbourne, fitted out and run the same way.
- One approach to hairline design and density, taught by the same people, whichever studio you walk into.
- The same expectation that SMP is long-lasting, not fixed, with touch-ups available as the pigment softens over the years.
Which studio you choose comes down to geography, not quality. Foli Sim's SMP artists across Australia work to one standard, so the nearest studio is the right one, and whichever you visit, the approach will be the same.

Which Foli Sim artist suits your hair loss?
Read the profiles with your hair loss in mind, because each of our qualified SMP practitioners has work they favour. Natalie Marie in Sydney specialises in FUE and FUT scar camouflage and density through existing hair. In Perth, Shannon Over has a flair for density within thinning hair and the soft full-shaven look, while Tara Scrivener is known for hairline design and rebuilding a full buzz-cut. Kelly Dawes in Melbourne was recognised for the most natural hairline at SMP Expo.
None of this locks you in. Foli Sim's SMP artists in Australia all cover the everyday range of men's SMP, and if your case would sit better with a colleague, your artist will say so at the consultation. Look through the before and after gallery for healed work on a pattern like yours, then get in touch and tell us who you would like to see.

Frequently asked questions
Our artists train with recognised industry bodies in Australia and overseas rather than learning solely on the job. Our Director holds a Diploma of SMP from Goldeneye in Europe and a Masters in SMP completed with Scalp Micro USA in 2017, and that external benchmark shapes how the wider team is trained. Individual qualifications are listed on each artist's profile.
Yes. The team holds industry-standard infection control certification, and every studio is Australian Health Department Certified. Practically, that means single-use needles, medical-grade equipment and sterile private treatment rooms. Infection control certification is a fair thing to ask any SMP practitioner to produce before you let them work on your scalp.
Artists are based at specific studios: Kate Dawes and the Perth team at Fremantle, with colleagues covering Sydney's Double Bay studio and our Melbourne locations. Individual profiles list each artist's home studio. Some artists travel between locations at particular times, so if you want to see a specific person, mention it when you enquire and we will tell you when they are available.
Yes, subject to that artist's availability at the studio you are attending. Read the profiles, and if someone's background or portfolio appeals to you, request them when you book. If your preferred artist is heavily booked we will tell you honestly rather than quietly assigning someone else: you should know who is doing your treatment before you arrive.
Ask for evidence rather than claims:
- Formal SMP training and current infection control certification
- A health-authority-certified premises, not a rented room
- Healed results photographed from multiple angles, not just fresh work
- Experience with your specific situation: scarring, skin tone, hair loss stage
- Insurance, and a clear position on what happens if you are unhappy
That is how we prefer to work. SMP is built in layers across sessions, and the person who placed your hairline and set the density is best placed to judge what the next pass needs. Continuity is planned into your bookings from the outset. If circumstances ever require a change, you would be told beforehand and your treatment plan handed over in detail.
No. A trichologist studies the hair and scalp and the causes of hair loss; an SMP artist applies pigment to change how the scalp looks. They are separate disciplines that happen to overlap in our business: Kate Dawes is an accredited and registered Trichologist with the International Association of Trichologists as well as a Leading Practitioner in SMP.
Each team member has a personal profile page covering their background and the work they specialise in, and our gallery shows results from across the team. If you want to see cases from a particular artist that resemble your own hair loss pattern, ask us: we can usually put relevant examples in front of you before you commit to a consultation.
Yes. Scar work (including transplant donor scarring and scarring from surgery or accidents) is a regular part of what our artists do, and the gallery includes a dedicated scar section. It is a more demanding application than standard density work because scar tissue takes pigment unevenly, so these cases are always assessed in person before any commitment is made.
The team includes internationally trained and recognised artists, and our Director has presented at Australian and international industry events, including Olympia Beauty's Finishing Touches Boot Camp in 2019 and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery's World Congress Live Surgery Workshop in Bangkok. Staying visible in the wider field is how technique stays current.
Yes, the business is fully insured, which alongside health department certification and infection control certification forms the baseline we would expect any legitimate SMP provider to meet. It is worth confirming with any clinic you consider, because insurance and premises certification are the two things most often missing from operators working out of non-clinical spaces.
Yes, and we would encourage it. Your free consultation is normally with the artist who would carry out your treatment, so you can judge how they communicate and whether you are comfortable with their approach before any money changes hands. If you would rather meet by video first, that can be arranged at no cost.
