What our clients say in Perth
I want to give huge recognition to Shannon for the amazing work and care put in throughout my sessions. Shannon is a true artist with an incredible eye for detail. His professionalism, precision, and reassuring manner made the entire experience comfortable and stress-free. I would highly recommend Shannon and the team at Foli Sim if you are considering SMP.
I cannot rate foli sim high enough, Tara did my hair and she absolutely smashed it, not only did we have good banter and laughs while the sessions were going my results speak for themselves! This has changed my life, my confidence!! I’m embarrassed by the before photos, but I can’t not post this to show some female results for Tara ♥️
I underwent a hair transplant that resulted in visible scars on my scalp, and over time, the transplanted hair began to fall out. Subsequently, I chose to shave my head, but the scars from the transplant were prominent, which diminished my confidence. After careful consideration, I contacted Folisim to explore their solutions for my baldness and scarring. Tara and Micheal was my point of contact and thoroughly explained the procedure, including how the scars would be concealed and the results I could expect. She was very patient and supportive throughout the process. As I traveled from a regional town to undergo my SMP treatment, Tara and Michael, were exceptionally accommodating. After the first session, I noticed a significant boost in my confidence as the visible scars on my scalp were effectively masked, giving the appearance of a freshly shaved head with a full head of hair. By the third session, I was amazed to see my original hairline restored so naturally that my colleagues began asking why I was shaving my hair when it appeared so thick and dense. This outcome reflects the high quality of the work Tara provided, which significantly increased my confidence. Had I been aware of Folisim and the SMP procedure earlier, I would have opted against a hair transplant. Overall, I highly recommend Folisim to anyone considering SMP without hesitation.
Amazing work by Tara – highly recommend! I first got my SMP done at Foli Sim a few years back and recently returned for a touch-up with Tara. Really happy with the results. Tara clearly knows what she's doing and genuinely cares about getting it right. The whole process was easy from start to finish: friendly team, smooth booking, and no fuss on the day. If you're thinking about SMP, I'd definitely recommend Tara and the Foli Sim team!
I honestly couldn’t be happier with my SMP journey with Tara. The results are incredibly realistic and have completely changed the way I feel about myself. After 6 sessions, the transformation has been life changing. Tara is professional, talented, patient and genuinely cares about getting the best result possible. Every session felt comfortable and I always trusted the process. If you’re considering SMP, I can wholeheartedly recommend Tara. One of the best decisions I’ve made. Thank you Tara 🙏
Kate is an incredibly gifted artist. Her work is thorough and attentive and she goes above and beyond to make sure your final results are absolutely perfect. If you are hesitant to commit to SMP to help you with your confidence, see Kate. Your journey with Foli Sim will not only be confidence boosting, it will be life-changing.

Welcome to Our Perth Clinic for Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment
At Foli Sim, we specialise in bespoke scalp micropigmentation, also known as SMP. Our treatments support people experiencing hair loss, thinning hair, or scalp scarring. Every SMP treatment is personalised and delivered with precision by experienced industry professionals.
Our flagship studio is located in the heart of Fremantle, Western Australia. At this location, our skilled artists Kate, Tara and Shannon provide free, no-obligation consultations and professional SMP treatments.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation is a cosmetic treatment that replicates the look of natural hair follicles. It uses specialised micro-needles to apply pigment directly to the scalp. The result creates the appearance of a fuller head of hair or a clean, shaved style.
SMP is non-surgical and minimally invasive. It effectively conceals baldness, thinning hair and scalp scarring. Many clients choose SMP as a long-lasting alternative to hair transplants or invasive procedures.

Our Perth Clinic
Foli Sim offers a premium SMP experience in a clean and professional environment. Our Perth clinic is led by Senior Practitioner Kate Dawes, one of Australia’s leading scalp micropigmentation artists. She regularly shares her expertise at international conferences and workshops.
Our artists Tara and Shannon also bring extensive experience and advanced training to every treatment. Together, the team delivers natural results with a strong focus on detail and client satisfaction.
Like all Foli Sim locations, our Perth studio is certified by the Australian Health Department. We use medical-grade equipment in sterile treatment rooms to ensure safety and comfort at all times.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is an effective solution for individuals dealing with various types of hair loss. Whether you are experiencing male or female pattern baldness, thinning hair, or scarring, SMP can help restore the appearance of a fuller head of hair. It’s also a great option for people with conditions like alopecia or those who have lost hair due to medication or accidents.
SMP can help with:
- Male Pattern Baldness (AGA)
- Female Pattern Baldness (AGA)
- Alopecia (all types)
- Thinning or fine hair
- Patchy hair loss
- Hair loss due to medications
- Scarring from surgeries, injuries, or conditions (including FUE/FUT scars, strip scars, and accident scarring)
This treatment not only enhances hair density but can also improve self-esteem by providing a natural, fuller look.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) and hair transplant surgery are both popular options for addressing hair loss, but they differ in their approach, costs, and recovery. While you can combine both treatments for optimal results, SMP offers several unique advantages over traditional hair transplant surgery:
1. Safer Procedure
Unlike hair transplant surgery, which involves incisions, anaesthesia, and potential side effects from chemicals or medications, SMP is a minimally invasive treatment. It doesn’t require surgery, meaning there’s no risk of scarring, infection, or complications post-procedure. When performed by a licensed artist, SMP has a much safer profile.
2. Low Maintenance
SMP is a low-maintenance solution compared to other hair restoration options. While hair transplants often require long-term care, medications, or regular treatments, SMP doesn’t require such investments. Once done, the results are permanent, with touch-ups needed only every 2 to 5 years, depending on factors like hair loss progression, sun exposure, and skin type. It’s a simple, one-time procedure with minimal upkeep.
3. Non-Invasive
SMP is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t involve any incisions or the need for donor hair. It doesn’t cause damage to your existing hair follicles and won’t leave scars on your scalp. This makes it an excellent choice for people who prefer a non-surgical, low-risk alternative to traditional hair restoration methods.
4. Cost-Effective
SMP is typically more affordable than hair transplant surgery, which can be quite expensive, especially when factoring in multiple sessions, post-operative care, and potential revisions. Even with touch-ups every few years, SMP remains a cost-effective long-term solution for hair loss.
In summary, while both treatments have their merits, SMP offers a safer, lower-maintenance, non-invasive, and more budget-friendly option for those looking to restore the appearance of a fuller head of hair.
There is no one answer to this, as everyone has a unique situation that they find themselves in on their hair loss journey. If you have more advanced hair loss, typically this will require around three sessions of SMP, ensuring you are healing in between each session. Each session itself depends again on your personal level of hair loss, but it can range between 1-4 hours.
Once the treatment is completed, many clients tend to come back in after 5 years or so to have an SMP touch-up. To find out how many sessions you would require, please book a free consultation with one of our SMP artists.
Although the sessions are relatively stress-free, there are a few key things you can do to prepare yourself for each of the SMP sessions you may need for your individual treatment plan: 1. Shower and wash your scalp before the session, as you won’t be able to wet your scalp for a few days after your treatment.
2. Depending on the oiliness of your scalp and skin, it might be best to moisturise your scalp 7 days before your initial SMP session.
3. Do not drink alcohol or consume any other drugs in the 48 hours leading up to your treatments.
One of the key benefits of scalp micropigmentation is that as a non-surgical hair loss treatment, there are very few risks associated with the procedure. The following risks and potential complications are important items to keep in mind, particularly when searching for an experienced and professional SMP artist:
- When applied incorrectly, the end results can look quite unnatural or uneven on the scalp.
- Skin infection or irritation due to unsterilised equipment or unsanitary working environment.
- Some people may be at risk of an allergic reaction to the specialised SMP pigments applied to the scalp.
- If you are someone who is prone to keloid scars, it’s advised that you should not receive scalp micropigmentation treatment.
Once again, researching a licensed and professional SMP artist who operates out of a health department approved clinic is essential for a smooth and sanitary SMP process.
The great benefit of being a non-surgical procedure, is that the recovery from SMP is generally quick and straightforward. Most people can return to their normal activities almost immediately. However, there are a few important guidelines to follow:
- Avoid intense exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating for the first 48 hours after treatment.
- Keep your scalp out of direct sunlight for the first few days, and consider wearing a hat or other protective covering.
- To ensure the best long-term results, protect your scalp from sun exposure by applying SPF 50 sunscreen when outdoors.
- After your final treatment session, avoid swimming, steam rooms, and saunas for at least a month.
If you have any other questions in relation to aftercare for SMP, please get in touch with the team at Foli Sim.
Our Perth studio is at Level 1, Suite 2/135 High Street Mall, Fremantle WA 6160: a first-floor clinic right in the heart of the Fremantle shopping precinct. The mall itself is pedestrian-only, so most clients use one of the council car parks a few minutes' walk away, or arrive by train, with Fremantle station close by. If you tell us roughly when you're arriving, our team can talk you through the easiest approach on the day.
Perth is our flagship studio and is led by Senior Practitioner Kate Dawes, one of Australia's most respected scalp micropigmentation artists, who regularly teaches at international conferences and workshops. Working alongside her are Shannon Over, who first came to Foli Sim as a client, and Tara Scrivener, a Fremantle local. You'll meet your artist at the free consultation, and the same artist normally carries your treatment through from first session to final review.
Sessions are usually spaced around one to two weeks apart, though your artist may extend that depending on how your scalp settles. The gap is deliberate: pigment softens slightly as it heals, so your artist needs to see the settled result before deciding how much depth and density to add next. Rushing the spacing is one of the quickest ways to end up with work that looks heavy, so we plan the intervals with you at the consultation.
Your hairline is drawn on before a single follicle is placed, and nothing starts until you're happy with it. Your artist considers your head shape, facial proportions, existing hair pattern, age and how your loss is likely to progress, then maps a shape that will still look right in ten years. Most clients want something softer and less defined than they first imagine: a hard, drawn-on line is the classic giveaway of poor work. You approve the design in the mirror before we begin.
Fibres and sprays sit on top of the hair and scalp, so they need reapplying daily and can run, smudge or transfer in rain, sweat or on a pillow. Scalp micropigmentation places pigment into the scalp itself, so there's nothing to reapply, nothing to carry with you and nothing to worry about at the gym or the beach. Many Perth clients come to us specifically because they're tired of managing a daily routine.
Most clients describe it as mild discomfort rather than pain: closer to a light scratching sensation than anything sharp. Sensitivity varies across the scalp, with the hairline and any scarred areas usually being the most tender and the crown the least. Sessions run in stages with breaks whenever you need one, and plenty of clients doze off partway through. If you're concerned about your pain tolerance, raise it at your free consultation and your artist will explain how they manage it.
We use specialised scalp pigments, diluted and blended to match your natural hair colour and skin tone rather than applied at a single fixed shade. Your artist tests the shade in a small, discreet area first and adjusts the dilution across the sessions, layering lighter in areas where you want a softer look and denser where you want depth. This is why the first session is deliberately conservative: it's far easier to build up than to lighten down.
Scalp micropigmentation is long-lasting rather than permanent. Most clients enjoy their result for several years before it begins to soften, and typically return for a touch-up every few years to refresh the depth and tone. How long yours holds depends on your skin type, sun exposure and how your hair loss progresses. Wearing SPF 50 on your scalp is the single biggest thing you can do to slow fading, particularly in the Perth sun.
Yes. We offer a free digital SMP simulation: you send us a few photos and we produce a realistic mock-up of how your scalp could look after treatment, at the hairline and density you're considering. It costs nothing and there's no obligation to book afterwards. For most men it's the moment the idea stops being abstract, and it's a useful thing to sit with for a week before making a decision.
Perth pricing follows the same guide as our other studios: see our indicative pricing guide for what treatment typically costs by degree of hair loss.
Those figures are a guide only. A confirmed quotation is prepared for you personally: book a free consultation in person, by phone or by video, or send photographs by email, WhatsApp or text and we will send a written quote.
Consultations at our Fremantle studio are free and carry no obligation, and interest-free payment plans are available through ZipMoney.
Yes, and a good share of our Perth clients travel in, including FIFO workers scheduling around swings. Your consultation can be done by phone or video so you don't make a trip just to talk, and we'll plan your session dates around your travel or roster once we know your pattern. Tell us your constraints early and we'll build the treatment plan around them rather than the other way round.
Kate, Tara and Shannon typically book treatment sessions three to four weeks ahead, so it's worth getting your consultation in the diary early even if you're still deciding. Consultations are free and usually available much sooner than treatment slots. Once you've committed to a plan, we'll normally lock in your full session sequence at once so the spacing works properly and you're not waiting for an opening midway through.
