When an industry is relatively young, there’s so much to be taught, learned and improved. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) has seen a huge surge in popularity over recent years, and now the artistic hair loss solution has its very own annual conference.

The Meeting of Minds conference is a relatively new event held in the UK by Team Micro. Now in it’s second year, it’s dedicated to bringing together industry leaders and practitioners from around the world, which is where Foli Sim’s co-founder and leading technician, Kate Dawes comes in.

Kate was invited to speak on the experts panel at the event, and share her knowledge of SMP. So back in May, she and our leading Melbourne scalp micropigmentation practitioner, Suzi, jet off to attend Meeting of Minds 2018.

The pair touched down in Manchester, home of this years’ conference. Kate spoke alongside other internationally acclaimed artists, Eve Pleavin, Agnieszka Zapala, Steven Greitzer, and Fernando Cortes.

The speakers gave varying lectures on subjects such as colour correction, SMP removal systems, advertising, and the future of the industry.

Meanwhile, the panel were asked questions from the members of the audience, which varied from the future of the SMP industry, down to the size of needles they each preferred. As the only trichologist on the panel, Kate tackled the questions on the various forms of hair loss, as well as her SMP technique.

In return, both Kate and Suzi broadened their knowledge on different machines and pigments, with a room full of items ready to trial. There were also plenty of opportunities to network with some of the best in the business, and were delighted to hear how well known their work was amongst other artists.

When their time in the UK was over, Kate and Suzi left Meeting of Minds 2018 with even more passion for this ever-evolving industry.
